New Year's Resolutions: A Path to Personal and Business Growth

29/12/2023

Opinion of the Advisory Principal Gianfranco Miranda

🗓️ End of the year - a time of joy, uniting families worldwide, and reflecting on our journey. It's a moment to ponder, to aspire for boldness, and to enrich our lives.

This sentiment resonates with nearly everyone as the New Year approaches, doesn’t it? 2024 serves as a continuation of our progress, guiding us toward becoming better individuals—whether as a parent, child, fiancé, spouse, or entrepreneur. Each reflection on the past year shapes the trajectory for the next. As we enter this period, let's contemplate some aspects and sketch out others. Allow me to assist you in this process.

Let’s start by reflecting. Consider grabbing pen and paper ✍️—stepping away from the computer screen. Jot down the rights and wrongs, gains and losses, dreams realized, and those still pending, but do this for yourself first:

🔹"Dear (Your Name),"

  • Rights:

  • Wrongs:

  • Gains:

  • Losses:

  • Dreams Reached:

  • Dreams on bucket list:

Take a moment to jot down your thoughts. If you feel lost, keep a notepad handy for later additions. Once you're done, return, and let’s delve deeper.

How did it feel to pen down these thoughts? Did you surpass your expectations? Were you able to focus on the positives more than the negatives?

🧠 This introspection is pivotal for self-realization. To improve oneself, understanding the current workings of our mind and positively resetting our mindset is essential. Consider embracing our failures, learning from this year, and charting a course for a better next year. Try making this a daily habit—it'll surely lead to improvement over time.

🔹Now that you've done this for yourself, let’s pivot to your business. Grab another piece of paper and outline:

  • Success:

  • Failure:

  • Opportunities:

  • Losses:

  • Best thing this year:

  • Worst thing this year:

Fascinating, isn’t it? Compare the successes to the failures in your business. Did successes outweigh failures? What about losses against opportunities? Are there avenues for growth, expansion, or new products and services? Perhaps opportunities lie more in the human aspect? Evaluate these and discern their importance.

You likely discern what's more pertinent for your business. Avoid shortcuts; contemplate what genuinely matters.

Lastly, does the best thing that happened overshadow the worst? Do you believe your business has progressed from 2022 to the beginning of this year?

These queries hold significance as they provide insight into your business's current state. Critical decisions may arise from these reflections. 📈

Now armed with personal and business insights, it's time to craft our resolutions for 2024. Create two sets of resolutions:

🔹First, focus on personal growth tied to:

  1. Yourself

  2. Your Family and/or loved ones

  3. Your coworkers

  4. Your employees

  5. Your clients

🔹Second, draft resolutions for your business growth linked to:

  1. Products

  2. Services

  3. Employees

  4. Investments

May these resolutions provide valuable insights for your next year's strategies, aligning with your aspirations for growth. So, will this year's resolutions guide us toward improvement? Or perhaps, were we already better than we acknowledged? These introspective questions pave the way for your continuous growth journey into the upcoming year.

Until next year! 🙌
